Meri Guriya: Highlighting a deeply rooted problem 'Child Abuse in Pakistan'

Meri Guriya was a Pakistani crime drama TV series that aired on ARY Digital from June to October 2018. Co-produced by Fahad Mustafa and Dr. Ali Kazmi.
The show’s story focused on highlighting some deeply rooted problems such as child abuse in Pakistan. The show’s main cast included Sania Saeed, Sajid Hassan, Sonya Hussain and Mohsin Abbas Haider.

The very first scene of Meri Guriya began with a trekker finding the mutilated body of a little girl deep in the forest. And just like that, the TV series won the hearts of the audience despite its dark theme. 

All through its journey, Meri Guriya concentrated not only on the rising issue of child abuse in our society, but also focused on educating people how important it is to speak up for their rights because not doing so only tends to help killers thrive in our society.

Offering a fresh new perspective on child abusers and all those that they tend to affect, Meri Guriya outlined the hypocrisy of our society with which the voices of the innocent are suppressed. 

Sania Saeed, playing the illiterate yet determined mother of three young girls, is sure to make everyone cry with her superb performances and perfectly delivered dialogues. With her strong-willed friend Safeena (Sonya Hussain) by her side, Sania Saeed becomes an exemplary mother who embarks on a seemingly impossible journey of finding her youngest daughter’s rapist and killer and bringing him to justice amidst a myriad of difficulties. 

Another honorable mention goes to Mohsin Abbas who played the role of Dabeer, the actual culprit behind all the murders of children happening in town. The show provides an excellent example of how people like Dabeer can avoid suspicion just by being cowards. 

People don’t expect cowardly people to carry out big crimes such as abuse, and murders and this show just proves how wrong we all can be.

Overall, the show might not have received as much publicity as other shows such as Udaari but it is a must watch for everyone.
