A trip down memory lane with Nescafe Basement's cover of 'Aadat'

Nescafe Basement has definitely reached new milestones with season 5. From recreating Haroon’s ‘Mehbooba’ to the rendition of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s ‘Piya Re’, Nescafe Basement has certainly outdone itself in the fifth season. Receiving recognition from both fans and critics, the musical platform managed to gather positive reviews not only from viewers in Pakistan but internationally as well. Season 5 of Nescafe Basement also proved itself by including the All Kids Band to help break stereotypes on Valentine’s Day with the refreshing song ‘Pyar Diyan Gallan’. But it wasn’t until season 5 introduced us to the recreation of the song ‘Aadat’ that Nescafe Basement finally won over our hearts this year.

The revival of ‘Aadat’ was definitely a nostalgic moment for fans as they were taken back fifteen years ago to a time when the original song touched our souls. That’s right, Nescafe Basement marks the fifteen year anniversary to the release of the song that was on a constant loop in our cars and our hearts. The song ‘Aadat’, meaning habit, holds monumental value for all its fans. It represents an era when people used to habitually insert famous lyrics of the song such as ‘Ab to aadat si hai mujh ko” in their everyday conversations. The rendition of a melody that has ruled all our hearts for such a long period of time was simply outstanding.

Musical platforms such as Nescafe Basement and Coke Studio often take risks while experimenting with song covers as people are under the impression that they don’t do justice to the original song. However, the revival of Aadat has definitely proved otherwise as it declares itself as the clear winner of the show. The song has till date managed to reach approximately 6.2 million views on the official page of Nescafe Basement on YouTube.

A trip down memory lane with Nescafe Basement's cover of 'Aadat'
A blend of 12 different musical instruments, Aadat is an instrumental and orchestral version of the original song while also featuring Goher Mumtaz who was the composer of the original song. Six minutes after the song starts, Goher makes his appearance with the tune of Bhanwarey, another melody that makes fan of Jal the band delve deeper into their nostalgia. The original song touched millions of hearts all around the globe and this revival song was powerful enough to revive that love in our hearts again. Nescafe Basement really has made a huge achievement through the brilliant execution of a song that was so close to our hearts.
